Rules for the Transportation of Checked Baggage: What Every Passenger Needs to Know

What is baggage?

Checked baggage is suitcases or bags that the passenger hands over for transportation separately in the aircraft’s baggage compartment, and not in the cabin. Checking baggage helps ensure its safety and proper delivery to the destination.

Checked baggage allowance on FlyArystan:

  • Under the “Comfort” fare package, the passenger is allowed 20 kg of baggage.
  • Under the “Comfort Plus” fare package – 32 kg of baggage.

Baggage can also be purchased separately (not included in the fare package) from 10 to 60 kg.

According to sanitary regulations, the weight of one piece of checked baggage (a suitcase or bag) must not exceed 32 kg, and its dimensions must not exceed 158 cm in the sum of three measurements (length + width + height). The maximum allowable total weight of baggage purchased in advance must not exceed 60 kg.

If hand luggage (unchecked baggage the passenger takes into the aircraft cabin) exceeds 10 kg or the dimensions 56×23×36 cm, it will be considered baggage, which must be paid for, checked in, and handed over to the baggage compartment.

At the same time, if the weight of hand luggage exceeds the standard 5 kg but is not more than 10 kg, the passenger may purchase the “10 kg Hand Luggage” service – an additional 5 kg on top of the already included 5 kg. Payment in this case is charged not per kilogram but for the service as a whole.

Important: the transportation of checked baggage is paid according to the airport tariff based on the number of kilograms. The tariff varies and depends on the route distance. If the allowable baggage limit is exceeded, payment is made for whole kilograms. Airport baggage tariffs are higher than when purchased online.

How and where to purchase baggage in advance?

  • Independently when purchasing an air ticket in the FlyArystan mobile app or on flyarystan.com in the “Comfort” or “Comfort Plus” fare package.
  • Independently in the airline’s app or website in the “Manage Booking” section, even if the ticket was purchased through an agency or online.
  • Through the airline’s contact center or at the place of purchase (online/travel agency).

Important: Baggage must be purchased in advance—no later than 2 hours before scheduled departure on domestic routes and no later than 3 hours before scheduled departure on international routes. Tariffs can be found on the airline’s website: https://flyarystan.com/services-and-fees

The following can be transported as checked baggage free of charge:

  • one foldable stroller for each child under 5 years old;
  • a wheelchair for a passenger with limited mobility.

Check-in and baggage drop-off

In airports of Kazakhstan, the passenger independently checks in baggage through the iJan terminal and drops it off at the FlyArystan check-in counter. Baggage drop-off must be completed no later than 40 minutes before scheduled departure.

On international flights, baggage can be dropped off at the check-in counter no later than 60 minutes before departure.

Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before departure for domestic flights and at least 3 hours before international flights to complete all mandatory pre-flight procedures on time: check-in, boarding pass issuance, security screening, and border control.

Important: FlyArystan operates flights on a point-to-point basis, meaning each flight is considered a separate route, even if the passenger has a connecting itinerary. For example, when traveling Atyrau – Aktau – Aktobe, upon arrival in Aktau, the passenger must:

  1. Collect baggage from the conveyor belt;
  2. Check in for the next flight to Aktobe;
  3. Drop off baggage again at the check-in counter.

What to do in case of damage or loss of baggage?

Handling, loading, and unloading of baggage at airports is carried out by specialized airport services. The airline’s responsibility for baggage begins when it is accepted for transportation and continues until it is returned to the passenger. In case of baggage damage during transportation, the airline conducts an inspection and submits a report to the relevant airport services.

In case of damage, loss, or delay of baggage, the passenger must immediately contact the Lost & Found desk (in the baggage claim area) and fill out an Irregularity Report for baggage. Only if this Report is available can the airline review the case in the prescribed manner.

Damage to baggage is considered any deterioration during transportation of the baggage, cargo, or part of the baggage, as a result of which they cannot be fully or partially used for their original purpose. If such damage is discovered, the above-mentioned Report must be completed immediately after receiving the baggage. However, completing the document does not guarantee automatic compensation—each case is reviewed individually. If the baggage was not packed properly, the level of liability will be reduced.

Claims must be submitted in writing on the official FlyArystan website: sections “Help” – “Contact Us” – “Write to Us.” In the feedback type, select “Complaint,” and in the category “Damage/Loss of Baggage.”

To speed up the review of the claim, it is recommended to attach a copy of the Report issued at Lost & Found and provide contact details.

Safety when transporting checked baggage

Spare batteries, power banks, and electronic cigarettes are not allowed in checked baggage. These items may be transported only in hand luggage.

The full list of permitted and prohibited items, as well as food transportation requirements, is available on the website: https://flyarystan.com/baggage.

Please note that airport aviation security authorities may call a passenger for an additional inspection of baggage contents. This is a standard procedure within aviation security rules, and the airline cannot influence the decisions of the screening service. Such measures are intended solely to ensure the safety of all passengers.
